By the time the third local person had asked me whether I had been to see Milford Sound which is about 3.5 hours south of Queenstown, I got the feeling the place was a bit of a 'do not miss' moment. They call it the 8th wonder of the world here and although it has not been afforded that accolade, it must be a good contender. It is fiordland with sheer cliffs rising vertically from the ocean and waterfalls tumbling down the mountains. 60 years ago they cut a road through a mountain to gain access to this stunning area without any modern tools available to do so. And I can see why they went to all that pain. It is magnificent.
